Preparations made at the HQ South East Multinational Corps for the initiation of the DEFENDER EUROPE 21 CAX ⁄ CPX Exercise
A press conference held by the Commander of the HQ South East Multinational Corps, Major General Tomiță-Cătălin Tomescu, the Commander of the Allied Rapid Reaction Force, Lieutenant General Sir Edward Smyth-Osbourne and the Deputy Commander of V Corps, US Army, Brigadier General Matthew Van Waggenen will be organized at the HQ South East Multinational Corps on Friday, 14th May, starting 12.30.
The press activity will take place in the context of the preparation of DEFENDER EUROPE 21 CAX/CPX Exercise in Romania – which is part of DEFENDER-EUROPE 21 Joint Multinational Exercise, planned and conducted by the USAREUR-AF Command.

The Commander of V Corps, US Army, Lieutenant General John Kolasheski and Commander of the Headquarters Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (HQ ARRC) from Great Britain, Lieutenant General Sir Edward Smyth-Osbourne are making an official visit to Romania these days, following the invitation of the Commander of the HQ South East Multinational Corps, Major General Tomiță-Cătălin Tomescu.
The visit is part of the planning process of DEFENDER-EUROPE 21 CAX/CPX Exercise , conducted by the USAREUR-AF Command, with the participation of the V Corps of the US Army and HQ MNC-SE, with HQ ARRC support. The terrain walk - activity monitored the way the commanders of the participating structures recognize the exercise-associated field elements, (both from Romania and Bulgaria) which decisively influence the military actions in order to ensure the accomplishment of the operation goals and the conduct of the exercise in a realistic environment.
DEFENDER-EUROPE 21 CAX/CPX, HQ MNC-SE benefits from the constant support of USAREUR-AF Command and HQ ARRC. In this context, more than 100 soldiers from HQ ARRC will man positions and train together with the HQ MNC-SE personnel, in the planning and conduct of the military operations with a view of achieving Initial Operational Capability (IOC), according to the Memorandum signed by the two NATO commands.
DEFENDER-Europe 21 is a joint multinational exercise, planned and conducted by the USAREUR-AF Command, with a view of increasing the rapid reaction capability and interoperability level of the US Army with the NATO member and partner armed forces. Approximately 28,000 soldiers of the allied forces participate in DEFENDER-EUROPE 21 Exercise.
