State Secretary Simona Cojocaru's meeting with Thomas Silberhorn, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Defence from Germany

State Secretary for Defence Policy, Planning and International Relations, Simona Cojocaru, had a meeting with a delegation of the German Federal Ministry of Defence headed by State Secretary Thomas Silberhorn on Wednesday, 2nd June.

The meeting was an opportunity to discuss concrete ways of increasing the Romanian-German defence cooperation and current topics listed on NATO, EU and UNO security agenda.

The Romanian official thanked for Germany's contribution to the implementation of the allied deterrence and defence measures on the South-Eastern Flank, including by manning certain multinational structures deployed on our territory or the upcoming participation in the enhanced-Air Policing missions conducted on Romanian territory.

The Romanian party also emphasized the importance of continuing participating in military exercises and training activities at bilateral and multination al levels in order to increase interoperability among the armed forces.

In NATO context, the two officials talked about the main topics that are to be tackled within the 14th June NATO Summit as well as the main aspects within the Framework Nation Concept German Initiative.

In EU context, the officials saluted German's achievements throughout the Presidency of the European Union Council and explored ways of cooperation within the initiative dedicated to the capability development, especially to the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO).

At the end of the meeting, the two officials expressed their conviction on the need to maintain the status of the defence bilateral cooperation both at the level of the political-military dialogue and in practical terms.
