The Chief of Defence Staff, at the Balkan Chiefs of Defence Conference

The chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Daniel Petrescu, participates in the 14th edition of the Balkan Chiefs of Defence Conference , on military cooperation topics, which is held in Sarajevo, over 7th 9th June.

The Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, and the Chairman of the EU Military Committee, General Claudio Graziano, will also be attending the conference.

The goal of the conference is to develop regional cooperation by increasing security and ensuring a stability climate in the Balkans, increase interoperability of the armed forces in the region with a view of jointly participating in exercises and missions and identify and develop several regional crises management mechanisms.

As part of the conference held in the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Romanian Chief of Defence Staff has scheduled meetings with the commander of Operation EUFOR ALTHEA, Major General Alexander Platzer, and a meeting with the soldiers of the Romanian detachment deployed to Camp Butmir.

The Chiefs of Defence Conference from the Balkan countries on military cooperation takes place annually, being an instrument which complements other regional initiatives, whose goal is to increase cooperation among nine of the states located in South-Eastern Europe (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Turkey).

This year, the chiefs of defence from Croatia and Slovenia were also invited to participate in the conference.
