140 years of Romanian-Spanish relations, celebrated at the National Military Club Palace

State Secretary for Defence Policy, Planning and International Relations, Simona Cojocaru, participated on Tuesday, 15th June, in the Marble Hall of the National Military Club Palace, in the round-table talk entitled 140 Years of Romanian-Spanish Relations: From Diplomatic Recognition to an Alliance. The round-table talk was organized by the Institute for Political Defence Studies and Military History of the MoND, in cooperation with the Romanian National Archives, the Diplomatic Archives of the Foreign Affairs Ministry and Defence Staff Library.

The event was conducted in hybrid format and marked the establishment of diplomatic relations between Romania and Spain, which conferred new meanings to the historical relations between the two nations, which are part of the great Latin family.

The round-table talk was attended by Manuel Larrotcha Parada, the Ambassador of the Spanish Kingdom in Romania, Spanish officers manning the Multinational Headquarters established on Romanian territory, representatives of Cervantes Institute as well as diplomats, historians, military personnel, researchers and experts from Romania and Spain.

The state secretary reiterated the importance of the Strategic Partnership between the two states, Romania and Spain having cooperated closely in the theaters of operations as well as having promoted common projects and initiatives meant to contribute to the promotion of stability regional and international security.

The strong connection between the two nations influenced by the Latin origins and the linguistic and cultural affinities led to close political and diplomatic relations the Romanian dignitary added.

During the debates, the officials analyzed the connections which put their marks on the destiny of the two nations, throughout history. Also, the officials appreciated the bilateral cooperation in the economic, defence, public administration, internal affairs, educational and cultural fields.

On the occasion of this meeting, two exhibitions displaying historical documents and photos were organized at the National Military Club Palace, with the support of the Diplomatic Archives of the Foreign Affairs Ministry and Romania's National Archives.
