Official Signing Ceremony and exercise demonstration on enhanced Air Policing

The Chief of the Air Staff of the British Royal Air Force (RAF), Air Chief Marshal Sir Mike Wigston, and the head of the German Air Force (GAF), Lieutenant-General Ingo Gerhartz, will sign a Common Declaration on UK and German Typhoon/Eurofighter interoperability. This is to facilitate the conduct of future Combined Exercises and Operations and a ceremony will be hosted by the head of the Romanian Air Force (RoAF), Major-General Victor Pana Thursday on 1 July 2021 at 57 Air Base Mihail Kogalniceanu (MKAB).

During the same ceremony, Lieutenant-General Gerhartz and Major-General Pana will sign the Declaration of Intent for the development of bilateral relations in the Air Domain.
On this occasion, a practice (Tango) Scramble Quick Reaction Alert (T-Scr QRA) exercise will be carried out by the RAF, GAF and RoAF to demonstrate the actions taken by nations participating in the NATO enhanced Air Policing mission deployed to MKAB.
On Friday, 2 July, the three air forces will participate in an Air Defence Exercise (ADEX) alongside other NATO allies.

A RoAF C-27J Spartan is scheduled to take off from 90th Airlift Base Otopeni with media photographers and military camera teams to fly towards MKAB. En route, Allied fighter aircraft are scheduled to conduct training intercepts of the C-27 to demonstrate Allied vigilance, capability and interoperability. Upon landing at MKAB, the photographers on the C-27 will join other media already in place to attend a media event with static aircraft on display.
The event hopes to demonstrate the evolution of Allied cooperation in the field of NATO's collective Air Policing mission aimed at safeguarding the airspace above the Allies and at preserving the territorial integrity of the Allies. This comes a day after the 60th anniversary of NATO Air Policing.

The ADEX exercise planned for Wednesday, 2 July, is a joint training mission of the Allied Air Forces and the navy in the national airspace and on the international territory of the Black Sea.
Joint air policing missions contribute to the development of response and deterrence capacity, as well as strengthening the interoperability between the Romanian, British and German Air Forces.
The Romanian Air Force has been performing the Air Policing mission under the command of CAOC Torrejon since its accession to the North-Atlantic Organization. The NATO-led enhanced air policing mission is a peacetime collective defense mission aimed to protect the integrity of the Alliance's airspace. At any given moment, two fighter jets are in standby for the Air Policing Combat Service at 57 Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base.
The main mission of the air policing is to defend the national airspace by intercepting aircraft entering the national territory without authorization.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the first NATO air policing mission.
