The Chief of Defence Staff's meeting with the Commander of the Allied Maritime Command

The chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Daniel Petrescu, met with the Commander of the Allied Maritime Command, Vice Admiral Keith Blount, on Thursday, 22nd July, as part of the visit the NATO official pays to Romania over 21st-22nd July.

In the context of the increased cooperation between the Romanian Naval Forces and MARCOM, the main topics of discussions were the availability of the Romanian Armed Forces in providing support to the NATO ships and standing naval groups which conduct missions in the Black Sea area of responsibility and the intention to diversify the training activities, in allied context. Also, Lieutenant General Daniel Petrescu emphasized the importance he gives to the participation of the Romanian soldiers in missions conducted on NATO ships and in the MARCOM, Northhwood, as well as to the integration of the Romanian ships into the Standing Allied Naval Forces, standing NATO maritime groups and the mine-hunting maritime groups.

The schedule of Vice Admiral Keith Blount in Romania included a meeting with the defence minister, a lecture on the topic: MARCOM-Approach for Deterrence and Defence of the Euro-Atlantic Area at Carol I National Defence University, meetings with State Secretary Simona Cojocaru, the chief of Naval Forces Staff, Rear Admiral Mihai Panait, as well as with other commanders of the Romanian Naval Forces structures.
