State Secretary for Defence Policy, Planning and International Relations, Simona Cojocaru, participated in the Warsaw Security Forum, in the Republic of Poland, over 5th-6th October.

The Romanian official was invited at the debates held within the session Defence & Resilience Track, on the topic Living in the shadow of Russia how to deter Kremlin's assertive posture?, together with the defence ministers from Estonia and Montenegro.

The state secretary answered to journalist Ali Aslan's questions, the session moderator, about deterring the aggressions against the Central and Eastern European states, NATO's capacity of protecting its allies, the European solidarity with respect to the Russian Federation and the role of the United States of America on the global arena.

In her allocution, the Romanian dignitary said that the North-Atlantic Alliance is a solid, united and credible organization, with an extraordinary capability to adapt to the new security challenges. She also emphasized the security situation from the Black Sea region, with focus on the Russian Federation's assertive position. In this region, we can notice important military challenges and geopolitical malfunctions. The Black Sea is of utmost strategic importance for the European and Euro-Atlantic security, as a whole. The most effective method to strengthen security in the region is to continue implementing the measures taken in order to consolidate the defence and deterrence posture, the state secretary pointed out.

On Wednesday, 6th October, as part of the Warsaw Security Forum, the Romanian official participated in a working breakfast entitled Women in international security, together with the OSCE general Secretary, Helga Schmid, defence minister from Montenegro, Olivera Injac, and the former special representative of NATO's General Secretary for Women, Peace and Security, Claire Hutchinson.
