Exercise CETATEA 2021

On Thursday, 14th October, Minister of National Defence, Nicolae Ionel Ciuca, participated in the Distinguished Visitors ‘Day of Exercise CETATEA 2021, held at the headquarters of the Communications and Information Technology Command from Bucharest. The activity was also attended by the Deputy of the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Dumitru Scarlat, the chiefs of Services and the support commands.

This year, Exercise CETATEA is conducted over 4th 15th October, in several locations throughout the country, with the participation of the Romanian Armed Forces' communications and information technology and cybernetic defence structures, the national defence system structures and a detachment from the Republic of Moldova.

The goal of the exercise is to provide communications, information technology and cybernetic defence services in support of the exertion of the command and control of the participating structures. The activities are based on a fictitious scenario which allow the testing of the monitoring, detection and reaction capability to cybernetic attacks by using both the technical capabilities and the management and response procedures to cybernetic security incidents.

During these exercises we can observe the efforts of the engineers and technicians working in the Communications and IT MOS, which have been lately supported by the cybernetic defence component. The processes we have observed over the last 3-5 years please us. We notice an obvious positive evolution, the technical developments the Communications and IT specialists have succeeded in implementing being at the desired modernization we have expected for a long time, especially since we assumed specific technical standards when we joined NATO.

What I saw today at Exercise Cetatea gives me a satisfaction also because I noticed the enthusiasm, dedication and passion the military engineers and technicians put into finding solutions for the difficult command, control and information technology architecture in the Romania Armed Forces, minister Ciuca stated.

CETATEA is a technical exercise which provides for the training of the communications and information and technology structures in order to plan and achieve the specialty support required to ensure the informational exchange at strategic, operational and tactical levels, in a federated working environment and hostile cybernetic space.
