Defence Minister's meeting with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Romania

On Wednesday, 17th November, Defence Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca had a meeting with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Romania, Peer Gebauer, at the MoND headquarters.

The talks agenda included the main aspects of bilateral military cooperation and ways of increasing collaboration between the two states in the field of defence as well as current topics listed on the security agenda of NATO and EU.

The Defence Minister expressed his appreciation for the commitment of the Federal Republic of Germany in the implementation of the defence and deterrence measures dedicated to the allied Eastern Flank, especially to the Black Sea region, by pointing out the participation of the German Air Forces, as a first, in the eAP missions conducted in Romania in 2021.

The Romanian official pointed out the importance of the joint conduct of the bilateral and multinational exercises, in order to increase interoperability and confirm the reciprocal commitment, in support of the allied solidarity. At the same time, the Romanian party expressed its continuous commitment in the implementation of the projects associated to the German initiatives subsumed to the Framework Nation Concept, as well as the continuous support and participation in the establishment of the army-corps level units.

Minister Ciuca highlighted the importance of enhancing cooperation in the cyber defence and military medicine fields by bringing into attention the additional challenges posed to security and caused by the current pandemic context. In this context, the Romanian minister thanked the German official for the considerable support given by treating and transferring to Germany the COVID -19 patients who were in serious health condition.

Also, another topic listed on the talks agenda was the cooperation between our countries in NATO and EU context, with focus on the allied defence and deterrence posture, but also on the stability projection efforts, respectively cooperation within the EU initiatives in the field of defence.
