The Ministry of National Defence marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

The Ministry of National Defence joins the public institutions and organizations all over the world which mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Thus, on Thursday, 25th November, the MoND will have an orange poster posted on its website-a color adopted by the United Nations Organization, as a symbol of the fight against violence on women. The MoND building will also be illuminated in the same color.

The Ministry of National Defence continues to promote zero tolerance and fights to eliminate violence against women, raising awareness on the domestic violence phenomenon and violence on women. Also, the MoND supports the running of International Campaign for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls, through the National Agency for Equality of Opportunities between Women and Men.

The International Campaign for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls was launched in 1991. It marks 16 days of activism against the violence on women and it takes place each year over November 25th (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) - December 10th (The International Day of Human Rights endorsement of the Universal Declaration of the Human Rights).

By Resolution A/RES/54/134 of December 17th 1999, 25th November was established the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women by the General Gathering of the United Nations. This day is marked all over the world by manifestations and acts that condemn the various forms of violence against women. Based on this resolution, the UNO General Gathering invites the governments, the United Nations' agencies and the international and non-governmental organizations to organize events on 25th November in order to get the attention of the public and decision-making factors on the issue of violence against women and emphasize the constant preoccupation for the implementation of the public policies required to prevent and combat domestic violence.
