Task Force Cougar, ready for deployment

The infantry battalion type - joint force detachment representing the 2nd Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army began the final preparations for deployment from Germany to Romania, on Wednesday, 9th February.

The detachment, which will be operating under the name of Task Force (TF) Cougar, will act on Romanian territory under the US V Corps' operational command.

TF Cougar will be mainly made up of soldiers of the 2nd Squadron / 2nd Cavalry Regiment who will operate Stryker APCs as well as military personnel holding other MOS-es within the regiment's battalions (artillery, engineer, support structures).

The almost 1,000 American soldiers of TF Cougar will join, over the following days, the US troops already stationed in Romania. The quartering and training locations will be communicated later.

TF Cougar's main mission during its deployment in Romania will consist in conducting joint training sessions and activities with the Romanian Armed Forces' structures with a view of increasing the interoperability level and reciprocal trust.

The deployment of this detachment is part of the measures taken to consolidate the Allied posture on the entire NATO Flank, as a defensive formula that would provide for the security of the allies and deterrence of the aggressive actions conducted in the Black Sea Region. At the same time, it stands as a proof of the high cooperation level in the field of security and defence within the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States of America and sends a strong solidarity message among allies.
