Wreckage of a drone found in the Romanian territorial waters

On Wednesday, May 11, the Romanian Naval Forces were informed on the wreckage of a drone floating adrift in the Romanian territorial waters, somewhere between Sulina and Sfantu Gheorghe localities, at approximately two miles far from the shore.

The drone wreckage was recovered by one of the Naval Forces ships and taken over by the Romanian Air Forces in order to apply the legal procedures in force required to identify the wreck and the investigate the circumstances in which the drone crashed into the Romanian territorial waters.

The preliminary findings show that the wreck, which wear the mark of the Ukrainian Naval Forces, did not carry any armament or ammunition onboard.

The corroboration of the air traffic data from the Black Sea Region shows that the drone crashed into the Ukrainian air space most probably during the actions conducted over 7-8 May. The drone wreckage was afterwards carried by the drafts to the Romanian territorial waters, where it was spotted on May 11.

The Romanian authorities are currently applying the necessary legal procedures to notify the Ukrainian authorities with respect to this situation.
