Minister of National Defence, Vasile Dincu, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, will participate in the NATO Madrid Summit, over 29-30 June, as part of the Romanian delegation headed by President Klaus Iohannis.

The event will be an important landmark in NATO's adaptation process to the complex strategic security environment, marked by the war started by Russia against Ukraine as well as to the increase of the geopolitical and systemic competition at continental and global levels. The security picture is completed by the threats posed by regional instability, terrorism, cybernetic attacks and climatic changes which significantly impact on the Euro-Atlantic security and European stability.

The schedule of the two-day reunion consists in working sessions taking place at the level of the heads of states, foreign affairs and defence ministers, both at allied level and with the participation of the partners.

The Summit is an opportunity to take fundamental decisions for the Alliance posture and profile at regional and global levels, for NATO's and its allies' fundamental tasks as well as for the strategic guidelines over the next decade. The decisions taken here will provide for the consolidation of the long-term adaptation efforts of the Alliance profile and collective defence and deterrence posture in order to face the current, emerging and future security challenges. In this context, it is emphasized the endorsement of the new Strategic Concept of the Alliance which will ensure the conceptual orientation framework for NATO's entire future activity.

The schedule of the Minister of National Defence also comprises an informal dinner held within the defence ministers' format and hosted by the Spanish counterpart, Margarita Robles Fernandez, with the participation of the defence minister from Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the allied officials will approach the security situation from the Western Balkans, including from the perspective of the hybrid challenges and actions.

This format will offer the officials the opportunity to discuss the situation from a region of utmost strategic importance for the Alliance, which has been facing various threats caused both by the local security situation and by external influences of the malign actors such as Russia. Thus, the officials will discuss NATO support formulas in supporting resilience consolidation and Bosnia and Herzegovina's efforts in managing the destabilizing hybrid actions and challenges.

Also, another topic of discussion will be the KFOR contribution to the promotion of stability in the region, considering the current geopolitical context, as well as the support of the current political efforts by means of using the dialogue via EU - Belgrade - Pristina.
