The visit of the Chairman of the US Senate Armed Forces Committee to the MoND

State Secretary for Defence Policy, Planning and International Relations, Simona Cojocaru, met with Senator Jack Reed, US Senate Armed Forces Committee, on Thursday, 30 June, at the MoND headquarters.

The meeting agenda comprised current topics such as the security situation from the Black Sea region, in the context of Russia's aggressive invasion of Ukraine, and the major decisions adopted within the recent Madrid NATO Summit, especially the endorsement of the new Strategic Concept and historical decisions taken regarding the consolidation of the allied deterrence and defence posture. Also, the officials approached common interest topics related to bilateral defence cooperation within the Strategic Partnership between Romanian and the USA.

The state secretary thanked for the United States' constant and significant support in providing for security in Europe especially in the Black Sea region, at the same time mentioning that the augmentation of the US forces in Romania will contribute to the increase of our country's security, together with the recently adopted decisions by the Alliance with regard to the reviewing of its defence and deterrence posture.

In this context, the Romanian dignitary noticed the excellent collaboration within the Strategic Partnership with the USA in the field of defence by reminding that this year marks 25 years since its signing.

In the end, the two officials agreed upon continuing their common efforts with a view of accomplishing al objectives established within the bilateral defence cooperation agenda and providing support to Ukraine.
