The Chief of Defence Staff, at SACEUR change of command ceremony

On Monday, 4 July, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, participated in the change of command ceremony for NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) between General Tod D. Wolters and General Christopher G. Cavoli, at SHAPE Headquarters in Mons, Belgium.


General Daniel Petrescu was accompanied at the festivity by a delegation made up of the chiefs of the Romanian Military Representation to NATO and UE and the Defence Staff's Representation to SHAPE.


Based on the excellent cooperation relations existing at allied level, that have been strengthened over the last few years by means of the significant collaboration with the two American military leaders, the former and current SACEUR, the adaptation of the deterrence and defence posture has been reflected on the entire Eastern flank," the Chief of Defence Staff stated, on this occasion.


During the ceremony from Mons, General Daniel Petrescu awarded General Wolters the Defence Staff's Emblem of Honor", as a token of appreciation of the professionalism proved during the accomplishment of its specific tasks and the special contribution to the development and consolidation of the bilateral relations".


After spending four decades as an active-duty soldier, the last three years of which being the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), General Tod D. Wolters retired from the military. General Chistopher G. Cavolli was the United States Army Europe Commander (USAREUR-AF), thus, becoming the twentieth SACEUR in the NATO cronology.
