Defence Minister's participation in the Annual Seminar of International Society for Military Law

Minister of National Defence, Vasile Dincu, participated in the Annual Seminar of International Society for Military Law organized by the Military Prosecutors' Section of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, on Tuesday, 12 July.

The activity is conducted at the National Military Club and attended by judges from Brazil, Cyprus, Columbia, the Arab Emirates, France, Greece, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Romania, Spain, USA and Ukraine.

The seminar agenda comprised topics referring to the military conflict from Ukraine, international humanitarian law and international judicial cooperation topics in crises situations.

Minister Dincu emphasized the fact that the MoND judicial system, with the Legal General Directorate at its core, had adequately organized its specific objectives, benefitting from a well-trained professional staff and an efficient organization, which enables the development of the draft laws and the provision of specialty support to the other structures throughout the judicial development/endorsement process, within the legal competence limits. At the same time, the directorate ensures that the MoND specific norms are in accordance with the EU and NATO regulations, and provides the legal assistance during the signing of the technical agreements with a view of cooperating with the foreign armed forces.

Considering the current security context, the defence minister reiterated his solidarity with the Ukrainian people, emphasizing the fact that Russia's aggression against Ukraine is a strategic shock for the Euro-Atlantic and European security and stability, but also at regional level. In this respect, we stay committed to fully support Ukraine's territorial sovereignty and integrity and we strongly condemn the unjustified and unprovoked aggression war started by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the defence minister stated.

Also, minister Vasile Dincu pointed out the need that the international judicial institutions cooperate among them in order to investigate the war crimes committed during the conflict taking place in the neighboring country: Taking into consideration the current regional and global security situation, the military law is of utmost importance, in order to objectively investigate, on the basis on the international law, the serious infractions committed during the military and humanitarian crises situations and hold accountable those responsible for such crimes.

To conclude with, the minister reiterated the fact that Romania will stand beside all international organizations who collect evidence on the war crimes committed by the Russian Federation on Ukraine's territory, so that those who had committed these atrocities, since the beginning of the aggression, be held countable.
