NATO enhanced Vigilance Activity conducted in Romania's air space

Over 20 aircraft belonging to seven NATO member states as well as air surveillance and ground-based air defence systems participate in an enhanced Vigilance Activity conducted in the Romanian air space coordinated by the NATO Air Command (NATO AIRCOM) from Germany on Thursday, 28 July.

The fighters, the tanker aircraft and the early warning aircraft guided by Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTAC) will simulate the elimination from combat of a potential enemy aircraft during the exercise organized in accordance with the international legislation and standards in force.

The goal of the exercise is to demonstrate NATO's capacity in planning, coordinating and executing a complex and multinational air space securing mission in case of any emerging kind of threat or attack against the Allied territory.

During the exercise, the Romanian and Allied fighters will fly at low altitude between 13.00-14.00, in the area of Mihail Kogalniceanu and Capu Midia Localities from Constanta County.

Images from the exercise will be available after the closure of the activity and will be sent to the mass-media through the MoND Press Office.

In response to Russia's aggression against Ukraine, NATO significantly increased is defence and deterrence capacity, including by reinforcing its presence on the Eastern Flank by deploying additional Allied forces and equipment at all levels (ground, air and maritime), with a view of defending the Alliance territory against all types of threats.
