The CHOD's visit to the Republic of Moldova

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, made an official visit to the Republic of Moldova, over 21-22 September. The visit agenda included meetings with the Defence Minister, Anatolie Nosatii, and the Commander of the National Armed Force, Brigadier General Eduard Ohladciuc, respectively the participation in the Distinguished Visitors' Day of the Annual Multinational Exercise Fire Shield.
The talks focused on the assessment of the regional security situation and military bilateral cooperation as well as the two armed forces' commitments within the international organizations.
Minister Anatolie Nosatii commended our country's contribution to the reform process of the Moldovan Armed Force, by reiterating the fact that Romania remains a valuable strategic partner in this respect. The officials appreciated the cooperation relations between the Romanian and Moldovan armed forces, especially in the field of training. The constant joint exercises and the participation of the Moldovan soldiers in training sessions in Romania stand for vectors of the increased collaboration between the two defence institutions. In the context, General Petrescu mentioned that the Romanian Armed Forces would continue to support the Republic of Moldova's National Army efforts in the field of modernization, increase of readiness and interoperability level.

The Chiefs of Defence identified practical perspectives on the force training based on the cooperation plan issued by the Romanian-Moldovan Joint Military Committee. General Petrescu emphasized the fact that solidarity and cohesion among soldiers is achieved through joint exercises. ‘The force training and permanent dialogue at the level of the defence staffs are priorities for the Defence Staff's command team. We have a strategic partnership which produces positive results. Together with our colleagues from the Republic of Moldova, we defend the same values and share the same goals. Our plans will be fulfilled, the Romanian Chief of Defence Staff stated.

An important objective of the visit was the participation in the Distinguished Visitors' Day of Exercise ‘Fire Shield. The major training event brought together soldiers from the Republic of Moldova, Romania and United States. The multinational training aimed at increasing interoperability among the participating troops with a view of conducting the peace-keeping and support military operations. The Romanian Chief of Defence Staff stated that this is the second time I participate in the Annual Exercise Fire Shield. The exercise is an indicator of the progress in the field of Romanian-Moldovan Joint Training. I will continue to attend the main sequences of the force straining program. I will honor my commitment of standing beside the soldiers in order to support the effort they make in the national and international training areas.'
