Defence Ministers' meetings with South-Korean high officials

On Friday, 23 September, during the official visit he paid to the Republic of Korea, minister of national defence, Vasile Dincu, had meetings with the Minister of the Administration of the Defence Acquisition Program, EOM Dong-hwan, and the Chairman of the Homeland Defence Committee, LEE Hunseung.

During the talks, the Romanian official and with the two South-Korean high dignitaries, they emphasized the reciprocal interest for an increased cooperation in the field of defence industry between Romanian and the Republic of Korea, the reference terms being the existing potential in the field and the importance of the technology transfer and supply security, as defining elements in the current strategic context. In this context, the Romanian defence minister invited the Korean companies acting in the defence industry to participate in the bids for the future procurement programs of the Romanian Armed Forces, taking into consideration the usage of the NATO standards by the South-Koreans defence industry and their experience in running certain acquisition programs similar to the ones run by other NATO states.

During the talks, the officials emphasized the opportunity offered by the increased cooperation in the field of the state-of-art technologies, including the emergent and disruptive ones. Industrial cooperation was considered key to the increase of reciprocal trust, considering the opportunities offered by an ever-evolving military equipment market, in the context of unprecedented security challenges posed to the democratic European states.

The visit agenda also included the visitation of the Armament and Equipment Exhibition DefExpo Korea 2022, which brought together international representative companies from the Asia-Pacific region.
