Ioan Mircea Pascu minister of National Defense met Monday May 19, 03 Paul Wolfowitz US deputy Defense Secretary.

The discussions aimed the geopolitical and strategic role of Romania in the present political military context. Mr. Wolfowitz had special appreciation for our contribution in peacekeeping missions in the Balkans and Afghanistan and the engagement for participation to the stabilizing operations in Iraq.

Minister of National Defense presented the state of reform of the Armed Forces and assured Mr. Wolfowitz it will continue and simultaneously fulfilling our obligations as a full member of the North Atlantic Alliance.

Present at this meeting also were General Dr. Mihail Popescu, chief of Romanian General Staff and Michael Guest, US ambassador in Romania.
