Meeting between State Secretary Eduard Bachide and the OSCE Representatives

On Tuesday, 22 November, State Secretary for the Liaison with the Parliament and Personnel's Life Quality, Eduard Bachide, met with the Special Representative of the Chairman of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on Gender Issues, Liliana Palihovici at the MoND Headquarters. The Chairman was accompanied by Lara Scarpitta, Advisor on Gender Issues within OSCE Secretariat.

The visit to Romania of the OSCE official representative takes place in the context of the Ukraine war, the situation of the women refugees from Ukraine being one of the main topics of discussion listed on the meeting agenda with the Romanian representatives.

State Secretary Bachide emphasized that, following the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine, all the necessary measures were taken when approaching the Ukrainian refugees' crisis from the gender perspective, by respecting the civilian and humanitarian nature of the camps, ever since the projection of these arrangement works, according to the fourth pillar of the Assistance and Recovery within Resolution no. 1325 on Women, Peace and Security.

Other topics approached within the meeting between the two officials were the integration of the gender perspective into the military operations, measures taken to combat sexual abuse and the implementation of the provisions of the Resolutions of the UNO Security Council in the field.

The Ministry of National Defence has an Office on Gender Issues established in order to coordinate the implementation of the Resolution no.1325 of the UNO Security Council on Women, Peace and Security. The chief of this office was designated National Focal Point for the Women, Peace and Security field.
