Wednesday, January 19, 2005 Baroness Emma Nicholson, the European Parliament member visited the Mittica camp where the 812th Infantry Battalion Eagles of Carpathians in mission in Iraq are located.

The high European official was informed on the experience gained by the Romanians from Bistrita in the international missions in Angola, Kosovo and Afghanistan and the present projects in civil/military cooperation the Battalion is running in its area of responsibility in South of Dhi Qar Iraqi province.

Baroness Nicholson was impressed by the activity of the Romanian soldiers and the way the camp was organized. Knowing now the activities and the humanitarian projects you are developing I managed to find out the effort you made in reconstructing this country.
The mission you are fulfilling here represents real proof of your approach in supporting the local population in building the democratic future that the Iraqi people deserve. I am sure you are missed at home and that in the future you will continue to fulfill with the same responsibility the mandate you had here the European official stated.

At the end of the visit the Baroness Nicholson wrote in the Honor Book of the 812th Infantry Battalion Eagles of Carpathians the following: It is a special honor for me to see the achievements the 812th Infantry Battalion has in this theater of operations. I congratulate you for the courage and the special and professional activity you are developing here in the South of Iraq.
