Meeting between the Romanian and Polish Defence Ministers

On Tuesday, 10 January, Minister of National Defence, Angel Tilvar, met with the Polish Vice Prime Minister and Defence Minister, Mariusz Błaszczak, at Bemowo Piskie Military Base from Poland. The meeting was attended by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, and was organized as part of visit the MoND leadership paid to Romanian Sky Guardians Air Defence Detachment of the Battle Group Poland deployed to Bemowo Piskie Training Area (BPTA).

The talks agenda focused on the consolidation of the bilateral military relations and at EU and NATO levels and on the continuous adaptation of the security architecture on the Eastern flank and at the European Union Frontier, according to the dynamics of the security situation from Central and Eastern Europe. Also, the official pointed out that the reciprocal participation of the Romanian and Polish soldiers within multinational allied structures deployed on the two countries' territories is not just an example of international military cooperation but the proof of the firm common will for a collective defence.

The talks indicated converging and overall approaches taken to ensure a stable regional security situation. Also, the military officials expressed their conviction that the cooperation relations between the two armed forces will continue to consolidate, based on the strategic partnership.

Minister of National Defence, Angel Tilvar, appreciated that the level of the Romanian-Polish military cooperation is a high one, both parties making maximum use of the collaboration opportunities offered at bilateral level as well as at NATO and EU levels.

We have many things in common with the Polish soldiers, starting with the membership to the strongest military-political alliance in the history, NATO, continuing with the EU membership as well as with the excellent bilateral relations we capitalize on on mutual basis. A key word we used in our dialogue was interoperability. Together, we agreed to support the training of our soldiers with the state-of-art equipment which is already in our service. We have a common vision on the security situation generated by the unprovoked and illegal invasion of the Russian Federation against the sovereign state of Ukraine. Together, we emphasized the importance of European cohesion and solidarity against this aggression,' minister Angel Tilvar stated.

In his turn, Polish Vice Prime Minister and the Defence Minister, Mariusz Błaszczak, stated: I thank Romania for having deployed the Romanian Detachment to the Battle Group Poland. We have similar opinions with respect to the consolidation of our armed forces. We spend more than 2% of the GDP for defence expenditures. Both us, from Poland, and our friends from Romania equip our forces with modern military equipment. Together, we build the power of the North-Atlantic Alliance located on NATO's Eastern flank by proving all potential aggressors that an attack against Poland or Romania will be unsuccessful'.
