Defence Minister's official visit to the State of Qatar

Minister of National Defence, Angel Tilvar, made an official visit to the State of Qatar, over 12-14 March, at the invitation of the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence of the State of Qatar, dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah.

During the meeting, the two officials had a significant talk on the status and perspectives of defence cooperation, including on the collaboration of the State of Qatar with the North-Atlantic Alliance.

Also, the officials approached ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the field of joint training, exchange of intelligence and development of new defence technologies.

The two officials had a significant exchange of opinions on international security and unprecedented challenges posed to the Euro-Atlantic and global security architecture. The Romanian defence minister mentioned that Russian Federation's aggression war against Ukraine impacts on both the European security and stability and on the Middle East. In the context, the official emphasized the measures our country has taken in order to manage its consequences by mentioning the support offered to the Ukrainian refugees or in the field of cereals export.

Also, the Romanian official appreciated Qatar's role within certain significant processes of solving the emerging conflicts from the Middle East and Africa.

The two officials reiterated the commitment to continue the political-military dialogue and pointed out the importance of a defence bilateral cooperation framework that would enable the development of future significant projects.

As part of the official meetings, the Romanian delegation participated in the display of the military capabilities of the National Security Academy of the State of Qatar, the Combat Joint Training Center and of the Special Operations Forces' Center.
