THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT GRANTED BY THE ROMANIAN ARMED FORCES

Minister of National Defence, Teodor Atanasiu, received from the commander of the NATO Training Mission in Iraq a letter of thanks for the help in armament and ammunition granted by Romania to the Iraqi Armed Forces.

Commander of the Mission, Lieutenant General David Petraeus, mentioned the fact that the donation will be used by the Iraqi security forces in the near future for training and fulfilling some missions.

Appreciating the special role played by the Romanian forces in the theaters of operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina, General Petraeus invited Minister Atanasiu to pay a visit to NATO Training Mission Headquarters in Baghdad.

As response to the appeal made by NATO, the Romanian Armed Forces donated from their excess of armament: 6000 Bren guns, 500 machine guns, 300 semi-automatic rifles with field glasses and 100 rocket launchers.
The supply transport was planned and completed by an airplane made available by the North Atlantic Alliance.
