On Thursday, August 31, the Chief of the Defence Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, met, at the MoND Headquarters, with the Secretary General of the National Security Council of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Seyfullah Hacımuftuoğlu, who is on an official visit to Romania.
The agenda of the meeting focused on topics related to bilateral military cooperation and within NATO, with an emphasis on the importance of ensuring security and stability in the Black Sea region, in the context of the evolution of the Russian Federation's war of aggression in Ukraine. The other topics of discussion were the increase of collaboration in the field of military education, as well as the continuation of joint training and preparation in order to increase the interoperability of the armed forces.
The Chief of Defence Staff emphasized the military cooperation with Turkey within Allied framework and the regional initiatives for stability in the extended area of the Black Sea and in the Western Balkans. He also thanked for the presence of the Turkish soldiers in the multinational commands established on Romanian territory, the cooperation with the Naval Forces, as well as for the planned deployment, starting this year, of some Turkish aircraft that will conduct enhanced Air Policing Missions in Romania.
The two delegations agreed to increase defence cooperation between the two states, and emphasized the availability to continue the political-military dialogue.
