Defence Minister's meeting with the new Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to Romania

On Thursday, March 14th, Minister of National Defence, Angel Tilvar, received the presentation visit of the new Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to Romania, Evangelia Lili Grammatika.

At the beginning of the talks, the Minister of National Defence congratulated the Greek Ambassador on her appointment and expressed his belief that the collaborative relationship between Romania and Greece in the field of defence will continue maintaining the same substantial level of political-military dialogue and concrete cooperation between the two states' armed forces.

The Romanian Minister of Defence mentioned a series of relevant aspects with a major impact on the Black Sea security, against the background of Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine. In the context, Angel Tilvar mentioned that Romania is a pole of stability in the region, including from the perspective of the multidimensional support that our country provides to Ukraine.

The Romanian official also expressed his belief that the trilateral mine countermeasure initiative in the Black Sea, launched by Romania, together with Turkey and Bulgaria, will significantly contribute to ensuring the freedom of navigation of commercial and military ships.

The two officials agreed to continue the dialogue on common interest topics from the perspective of the NATO and EU memberships as well as at bilateral and regional levels.

The Romanian Minister of Defence thanked Greece for the support offered to our country throughout the Chairmanship of the South-East European Defence Ministerial (SEDM), a regional initiative whose chairmanship is held by Romania over 2023-2025.
