Minister of National Defence, Angel Tilvar, had a meeting with the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, James O'Brien, on Tuesday, April 16, at the MoND Headquarters.

During the meeting, which was also attended by Her Excellency Kathleen Kavalec, the US Ambassador to Bucharest, the officials addressed topics that mainly concerned the Romanian-American bilateral cooperation within the Strategic Partnership between the two states, as well as relevant aspects regarding the security situation in the Black Sea region, the Western Balkans and the Middle East.

In his allocution, Minister Angel Tilvar emphasized the deterioration of the security situation in the region, generated by the war of aggression launched by Russia in Ukraine and the need to strengthen the Allied presence on the entire Eastern Flank, this aspect being of vital importance for the security and stability of the extended Black Sea region, and not only.

'We reiterate our firm commitment to consolidate and strengthen our strategic partnership. Romania expresses its gratitude for the essential support provided by the United States of America in ensuring the security and defence of NATO's Eastern Flank', the Minister of Defence highlighted.

The two officials also discussed Ukraine's European accession path and continued international support for Kyiv.
