The Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces of the Republic of Ireland paid a visit to Romania

On Thursday, April 18, The Chief of Defence Staff, General Gheorghita Vlad, met, at the MoND Headquarters, with his counterpart from the Republic of Ireland, Lieutenant General Sean Clancy, who was on official visit to our country.

The dialogue focused on the regional security situation, paying particular attention to the Black Sea region and Eastern Europe. Also, the two chiefs of defence identified ways to strengthen military relations both at bilateral level and within the European Union's Common Security and Defence Policy.

During the meeting, General Gheorghita Vlad emphasized the contribution of the Irish partners to the UN peacekeeping operations, as well as to the support missions conducted by the allied troops in Kosovo and Afghanistan. 'The Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation, signed at the beginning of this month by the representatives of the Ministry of Defence of Ireland and the Ministry of National Defence of Romania, stands for the platform of increased joint training and interoperability throughout the international missions in which the two countries' military structures participate in', the Chief of Defence Staff stated.
