Minister of National Defence, Angel Tilvar, had a conversation with the American Secretary of Defence, Lloyd J. Austin III, on Wednesday, April 24. The talks mainly focused on the security situation generated by the war of aggression and the unconditional support for Ukraine, the importance of maintaining transatlantic unity in the current security context being reiterated.

'Romania stands in full solidarity with Ukraine, alongside the United States and its allies. We will continue to provide multidimensional support to sustain the Ukrainian defensive effort against the Russian aggression. It is important that we continue to respond together to the support needs', the Romanian Minister of Defence said.

During the conversation, the officials reiterated the need to continue bilateral efforts in order to strengthen Euro-Atlantic security and enhance the Romania-USA Strategic Partnership.

'The partnership with the United States is a priority for Romania and for the Ministry of National Defence. We are making progresses in the development of joint projects, thus increasing the military cooperation between our countries. I thanked the American Secretary of Defence for the consistent presence of the American troops on the national territory,' the Minister of National Defence stated.

The talks between the two officials also provided the opportunity to discuss some elements of interest in the preparation of the Ukraine Contact Group Meeting, which will take place on Friday, April 26, as well as to establish the common objectives in view of the Washington Summit that will take place this summer.

In the end, the Romanian and the American parties reconfirmed their joint commitment to strengthening the deterrence and defence posture on the Eastern Flank of the North Atlantic Alliance.
