Ammunition Discovered by the Romanian Soldiers in Iraq

Wednesday, March 23, 05 the soldiers of the 2nd Infantry Battalion Calugareni discovered unexploded elements of ammunition during their patrol mission along the Baghdad-Basra line of communication at about 70km South-East of An Nassiriya.

According to the information from Captain Carol Florea, the Battalion PR officer, they found in three locations 11 projectiles of 120mm, one 82mm projectile with the entire fuse, 20 anti tank rounds for AG 7 and AG 9 and about 5,000 cartridges for a 14.5mm machine gun. The ammunition probably came from a depot of the former Iraqi Armed Forces.

The patrol commanded by Lieutenant Cristian Ichimescu acted according to procedures for such cases, marked the area and called for the specialized Italian detachment for destroying ammunition.
