Defence Cooperation Agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to be submitted to the Parliament for debate and ratification

On Thursday, February 27, the Government of Romania approved the submission to the Parliament, for debate and ratification, of the Defence Cooperation Agreement with the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, a document signed in London, on November 13, 2024, by Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, and the Secretary of State for Defence of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, John Healey.

 

The agreement creates the general legal framework for the enhancement of defence cooperation between the two signatory parties, based on the principles of equality, reciprocity and mutual interest.

 

This tool will facilitate the increase of strategic dialogue and the development of joint projects to meet the operational requirements imposed by the developments of the security environment, such as logistics, capability development, resource planning, communications, countering hybrid threats, exercises, UN-led international operations, arms control, military training and education.

 

Great Britain is a constant contributor to the air policing missions and allied command and control structures deployed on Romanian territory.
