State Secretary and chief of Department for Parliamentary Liaison, Legislative Harmonization and Public Relations, Marius Balu met today with Jerzy Jaskiernia heading a Parliamentarian delegation of the Commission for External Affairs of the Polish Seim. They met in an official visit at the Ministry of National Defence Headquarters in Romania.

During the meeting, the Polish parliamentarians acknowledged the goals of the Romanian Armed Forces, stressing fulfillment of the engagements and obligations assumed by our country as a NATO full rights member. In this context they stressed the concern to optimize the process of reform achieving a structure of effective, flexible forces interoperable with those of the allied states.

A specific issue of discussion was the very good cooperation between the soldiers of the two armed forces within the stabilization and reconstruction mission in Iraq where the Romanian Detachment is under the Polish command of Multinational Division Central South.

At the end of the meeting Mr. Jaskiernia expressed his concern about the three Romanian journalists in a critical situation in Iraq.
