Rear-admiral Horia Macellariu corvette participating in BLACKSEAFOR activation

Rear-admiral Horia Macellariu corvette will participate between April 3 and 27, 05 in the second phase of the fourth activation of the Group of Navy Cooperation in the Black Sea, BLACKSEAFOR. The ship is commanded by Captain Commander Florin Tanase and the crew will consists of 105 sailors and two staff officers of the Group.

This exercise will include: marine troops Antares (Bulgaria), patrol ship Dioskuria (Georgia), infantry troops Tsezar Kunikov (Russian Federation), frigate Yldirim (Turkey) and command ship Slavutich (Ukraine). The program of activation will include visits in Istanbul and Eregli ports (Turkey), Burgas port (Bulgaria) and Constanta port (Romania). During their stationing in the harbors they will have theoretical and practical training, meeting with military and civil officials, press conferences, and ships tours.

BLACKSEAFOR, Group of Navy Cooperation in Black Sea was founded in 2001 as a force at request. The initiative was launched by Turkey within the Reunion of Navy Commanders from the Black Sea countries developed in Varna in 1998.

The BLACKSEAFOR activity contributes to the efforts of strengthening the cooperation, trust and good neighbors and regional security and stability, observing the aims and the principles of the United Nations Charter.

The BLACKSEAFOR missions consist of search and rescue operations, humanitarian assistance, protection of environment, mine sweeping and others missions agreed by the countries forming the Group Bulgaria, Russian Federation, Georgia, Romania, Turkey and Ukraine.
