Romanian soldiers in Iraq subordinated to another Italian brigade

The transfer of authority ceremony of the Italian Joint Task Force command between Brigade General Giovanni Borrini, commander of Garibaldi Brigade to whom the Romanians are subordinated and Brigade General Pietro Constantino, commander of Folgore Parachute Brigade was organized Thursday, April 21, 05 in Mittica camp, Iraq.

Present at this event were Lieutenant General Filiporto Cecchi, commander of Italian Joint Operational Command; Major General Peter Riley, commander of Multinational Division South East; US, British, Italian and Romanian officers from the Multinational Force structures. Representatives of the local authorities were Aziz Kadum Aluan Al Ogheli, Governor of Dhi Qar province and representatives of the Iraqi armed forces and police.

In his speech, the commander of Garibaldi Brigade stressed not only the unity of action performed within ITJTF but also the engagement of the soldiers from the 2nd Infantry Battalion Calugareni and the Military Police Company in fulfilling their missions. According to the information transmitted by Major Mihaita Ciobanca, General Borrini wanted to say good bye to the Romanian soldiers during a special meeting and as a sign of appreciation for the way they fulfilled their missions, he offered a booklet to the chiefs of compartments and the commanders of companies.
