Humanitarian actions of the Romanian soldiers in Iraq

The soldiers of the 2nd Infantry Battalion Calugareni celebrated Saturday, April 30, 05 the Infantry ‘s Day by a humanitarian activity in a school in Al Fudliyah, at about 15 km South east of Nasiriyah.
The Iraqi children received toys sent by the Romanian children and school materials donated by the Multinational Force. The toys were donated within the Children for children campaign organized by the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Society with the support of the Ministry of National Defence.
The Soul of Child paint exhibition was opened with this occasion, as Captain Carol Florea, the unit PR officer also transmitted. This action was initiated and developed by the 2nd Infantry Battalion. The exhibition comprise paintings made by Iraqi children and Romanian children from Ion Barbu high school, Bucharest.
Brigade General Visarion Neagoe, deputy commander of the 2nd Joint Operational Command took part in this event and stressed that such kind of actions will continue, having a great impact on the civil population in the region. The action was appreciated by the local authorities, by Major of Al Fudliyah and the director of the school, who better understood that the role of the Romanian Armed Forces in Iraq is to participate in stabilization and democratization of this country General Neagoe stated.
The works of the Romanian and Iraqi small artists will be brought in the country at Ion Barbu high school, for the exhibition for the June 1st, the International Day of Children.
Within humanitarian missions in the schools and kindergartens in their area of responsibility, the soldiers from the 2nd Infantry Battalion will continue to distribute toys collected by the Romanian children and the soldiers families.
