Soldiers of the 2nd Infantry Battalion Calugareni, deployed in Iraq, offered toys to Iraqi children in two kindergartens in Suq Ash Shuyukh (approximately 40 km south-east of An Nasiriyah) and one in Karmat Bani Said, on Tuesday.

The action is part of the Children for Children campaign, initiated by the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Company, with the support of the Ministry of National Defence.

Within the same mission, Romanian troops distributed furniture to the hospital in Suq Ash Shuyukh, sent by the Cooperazione Italiana organization within the Italian Government.

According to Captain Carol Florea, Romanian unit Public Information officer, the following took part in this action: Major Daniel Petrescu, 2nd Infantry Battalion Calugareni Commander, and Mr. Ali Hussein, Suq Ash Shuyukh District Governor.

Besides the Civil-Military Cooperation missions, within the stabilization and reconstruction operation, Romanian troops train Iraqi security forces, execute patrolling missions, and monitor the traffic on the main roads to ensure freedom of movement for the Multinational Force. In addition, they provide security for infrastructure elements (oil pipelines, electric power lines) and for Mittica Camp.
