The Romanian military medical personnel currently deployed on mission in Iraq marked the Military Medicine Day, on August 22.

Colonel Dr. Paul Florin, detachment commander and chief of the team operating in the Abu Ghraib hospital, and Colonel dr. Cristian Stefan, chief of the team in Camp Bucca hospital, told their colleagues in the Coalition about Romanian military medicine tradition, the current military health care system, and about Romanian military medical personnel's participation in international operations in Kuweit (1991), Somalia (1993-1994), Angola (1995-1997).

Representatives of the managing boards of the two hospitals in Irak praise the Romanian doctors and nurses who, they say, are highly qualified professionally, enthusiastic and hardworking. The Romanian team in Abu Ghraib consists of two physicians and nine nurses, and the one in Camp Bucca comprises two physicians and seven nurses.

The Romanian doctors started their mission in Iraq eight months ago. The first medical team was headed by Lieutenent-Colonel Dr. Mihai TANASE, from November 2004 to May 2005. The team present now in Iraq was deployed on May 29. The Abu Ghraib hospital is specialized in emergency medical assistance, while the one in Bucca is mostly used for soldiers who need longer treatment for recovery.
