ASSISTANCE TO THE FLOODS VICTIMS

About 250 military and 40 corresponding equipment took part yesterday, and on Friday to Saturday night, in the activities to relief the victims and to limit the floods consequences in the counties of Buzau, Constanta, Dambovita, Ialomita, Ilfov, Vrancea and the Municipality of Bucharest.

The military rescued and evacuated people and goods, transported drinking water, food, blankets and construction materials and took part in floods fighting construction works.

Upon request by the Prefecture of Ialomita County, the military belonging to the 10th Engineer Brigade, Braila, have intervened with three trucks and six pneumatic boats in the locality of Barbulesti, transporting both food for about 100 isolated people quartered in the school, and local authorities dealing with the situation evaluation.

This morning, one truck and two pneumatic boats went to the village of Cratani to evacuate the monks of the water-surrounded Balaciu monastry. The activities there are in full progress.

The military of the 96th Engineer Battalion, Bucharest, opened, by controlled blasts, the routes for water evacuation in the locality of Movilita, Ialomita County.

In order to prevent more damage, 140 military of the 30th Guard and Protocol Regiment assisted the local population to build a protection dam along the banks of the lake.

The Ministry of National Defence is ready to intervene, whenever local authorities request it, with about 2,000 military and the corresponding equipment to rescue the people in need, to assist in building dams, to do away with the effects of the floods.
