The legal aspects of replacing the compulsory by the volunteer-based military service and the harmonization of defence legislation with NATO and EU regulations are the main issues to be discussed during the meetings of Ludwig Van Der Veken, Director General for Legal Support and Mediation in the Belgian Ministry of Defence, and specialists of the MoD's Directorate of Legislation and Legal Assistance.
Other issues to be dealt with are the cooperation within the European Security and Defence Policy and the specific aspects of legislative structures - national parliament cooperation.
The programme of the Belgian official, who pays a visit to Romania on September 26 to 27 at the invitation of State Secretary Marius Balu, Chief of the Department of Parliamentary Liaison, Legislative Harmonisation and Public Relations, also includes visits of ‘Carol I National Defence University, Bucharest, and Nicolae Balcescu Army Academy.
