LONE FOIL 2005 Air Exercise

The Romanian and the British Air Forces will conduct the bilateral joint flight exercise LONE FOIL 2005 at Mihail Kogalniceanu Airfield, from October 7 to 17.

Romania participates with 130 people, 8 MiG 21 LanceRs and 2 IAR-330 helicopters, and Great Britain with 200 military, 6 TORNADO GR-4s and 2 tactical transport aircraft.

The goal of the exercise is to train the pilots in Romanian-British mixed crew/joint flights in close air support, air defence, offensive and air interdiction missions.

Support methods and procedures in peacekeeping and humanitarian operations will also be practiced. The ways to increase the interoperability of NATO structures involved in joint operations will be analyzed during the exercise.

The Air Forces of the two countries trained together at Mihail Kogalniceanu Airfield since 2003. This exercise continues the joint exercise conducted at Lossiemouth Air Base (Great Britain), from July 14 to 17.
