Evaluation visit in Afghanistan

You may be proud of your troops, said General B.B. Bell, Commander of U.S. Army, Europe (USAREUR), to the Romanian Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Dr. Sorin Ioan, at the end of the visit paid by the two officials to Afghanistan this week, starting October 7.

The aim of the visit was to evaluate the activity of the Romanian and the U.S. troops deployed in the theatre of operations during the Parliamentary elections there. The program included meetings and talks with NATO and Coalition commanders in Afghanistan, with staff personnel, with troops in the areas where the Romanian military operate. Kabul, Baghram, Kandahar and Konduz.

General Bell appreciated the Romanian troops' professionalism and responsibility in accomplishing their combat tasks, their participation in the activities of training the local forces and of rebuilding the communities in their areas of responsibility.

Lieutenant-General Ioan Sorin paid this visit at the invitation of the Commander of USAREUR. The delegation also included German Lieutenant-General Karl Heinz Lather, Deputy-Commander of NATO/CC Land, Heidelberg (Germany), Colonel Barbara Kuennecke, U.S. Defence Attache to Romania, Romanian and American officers and NCOs.
