Romania participates in two EU combat tactical groups
Minister of National Defence Teodor Atanasiu signed today with his counterparts from Bulgaria, Greece and Republic of Cyprus a letter of intention on establishing a combat tactical group operational in 2007 part of the EU rapid reaction capacity.
Atanasiu participated in the EU Defence Ministers Reunion debating “2010 global aim”, progress in civil-military coordination solving the crisis, intervention in case of disasters and the European Defence Agency activity.
In May 2005 Romania signed a letter of intention for the participation in the combat tactical group together with Italy and Turkey operating in 2010.
A combat tactical group is a battalion level structure including combat supporting elements and strategic transport and support capacity in the theater of operation for 30-120 days. The unit has to have the capacity of deployment within 5-10 days mainly for crisis management missions.
