Romania participates in two EU combat tactical groups

Minister of National Defence Teodor Atanasiu signed today with his counterparts from Bulgaria, Greece and Republic of Cyprus a letter of intention on establishing a combat tactical group operational in 2007 part of the EU rapid reaction capacity.

Atanasiu participated in the EU Defence Ministers Reunion debating 2010 global aim, progress in civil-military coordination solving the crisis, intervention in case of disasters and the European Defence Agency activity.

In May 2005 Romania signed a letter of intention for the participation in the combat tactical group together with Italy and Turkey operating in 2010.

A combat tactical group is a battalion level structure including combat supporting elements and strategic transport and support capacity in the theater of operation for 30-120 days. The unit has to have the capacity of deployment within 5-10 days mainly for crisis management missions.
