PRIME MINISTER TARICEANU IN VISIT TO ROMANIAN SOLDIERS IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

The Romanian soldiers in mission in the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be the hosts of the PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu, Minister of National Defence Teodor Atanasiu and Chief of General Staff General Dr. Eugen Badalan.

This is the first visit the PM Tariceanu pays in a theater of operations where the Romanian soldiers act. PM Tariceanu will have a meeting with Major General Gian Marco Chiarini, EUFOR commander and will meet the Romanian soldiers acting in peacekeeping operations and will have launch together with them.



Romania is participating in the EU mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (ALTHEA operation) with about 120 people.

A Military Police Platoon (23 persons) is displaced in Butmir near Sarajevo within the Police Integrated Unit. The Platoon under the Italian operational control is fulfilling the patrol missions and participates together with EUFOR troops in maintaining the public order. Another platoon, the Transport Platoon (28 people) is in Bugojno and Banja Luka and staff officers are acting in EUFOR Headquarter.

Additionally, since January 5, 2005 Romania offered four IAR 330 Puma Socat helicopters and their crews (41 people) acting under British command in this theater of operations and an AN 26(24) airplane at EUFOR HQ disposal acting at call from Henry Coanda-Otopeni airport.
