Minister Atanasiu presented Romania's position on NATO's transformation

The today's program, February 10, of the Informal Reunion of Defense Ministers of NATO members, occurred in Taormina, Italy consisted in NATO Council-Russia reunion, an working session of ministers of Defense on the Alliance's transformation and a meeting, the first of this type, between NATO Defense ministers and ministers of Defense part of the Mediterranean Dialogue.

The Romanian Minister of National Defense had two interventions during the session dedicated to the transformation of the Alliance stressing on the reaching of the final operational capacity of NATO Response Force (NRF) in October 2006 essential for the process of transformation and maintenance of the organization credibility.

NFR must be used according to the missions for which it was created and must not become a substitute for the situations when the normal process of generation of forces do not respond to the expectations Teodor Atanasiu added.

In the second intervention, minister Atanasiu focused on the importance of NATO General Political Directive and specified that the document of a strategic value should be supported by the chiefs of states and governments within NATO Summit in Riga, this autumn.
