Monday, December 1, 2003 minister of National Defense Ioan Mircea Pascu participated to the Reunion of Defense ministers from NATO member and invited states.
The agenda included debates on the achievements in transforming the Alliance’s capabilities; current operations and preparations for the next Istanbul Summit. Aspects on the revision of the allied process of defense planning for a more effective use of operation capabilities were also been discussed.
Minister of National Defense Ioan Mircea Pascu presented Romania’s position on supporting NATO process of transformation and the impact of the development of a new system of planning able to ensure a rapid and flexible reaction in crisis situation.
Ministers of Defense saluted the important progresses achieved in implementing NATO Reaction Force and the Prague engagements in capabilities. In the same time they also discussed the future requirements in increasing ISAF outside Kabul, the possibility for EU to take over in 2004 the mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Alliance’s support elements for multinational division led by Poland in Iraq.
During the discussions on the Isanbul Summit agenda there also have been discussed the importance of the continuation of the Alliance adaptation process towards the risks on security and the improvement of the cooperation with the partners from the Balkans, Caucasus and Central Asia and the dialogue with the Mediterranean partners.
Tuesday, December 2, 2003, minister Ioan Mircea Pascu will participate to NATO-Ukraine Commission works open for the first time for the invited states and to the reunion of the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council.
