Invictus Team Romānia Received at Cotroceni Palace

The Romanian delegation that will participate in „Invictus Games Toronto 2017” will be received at Cotroceni Palace by the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, Thursday, September 14th.
The participation of the Romanian delegation in these games is proof of the Romanian soldiers’ values: winner’s spirit, combatants’ cohesion and human solidarity.

The force and spirit forged mainly in theaters of operations, plus the sports power to regenerate body and mind enhance the self-confidence of the wounded soldiers and their families.
The fact that wounded/injured soldiers participate in sports competitions despite their medical problems is an example meant to encourage practicing sports and developing positive thinking at military and social level.

Fifteen injured military sportsmen will represent Romania in Toronto, divided according to the six types of sports they practice.

Thirty friends or family members will accompany the soldiers, along with three officials of the technical staff and sympathisers of the project.

Out of the desire to encourage and support physical recovery and rehabilitation of wounded, injured or sick armed services personnel, under the patronage of the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry the first Invictus Games were organized in London in 2014, with the participation of 400 competitors from 13 countries.

Invictus Games became quickly visible and got the attention of the armed services personnel after participating in missions in theaters of operations.

In 2016, a second edition of Invictus Games was organized, in Orlando, the USA this time, that brought together 500 military paralympic sportsmen from 14 countries.

This paralympic sports movement was quickly appreciated by the Romanian servicemen. Starting in the fall of 2014, along with civilian volunteers, they organized a series of sports events in which they included veterans of the theaters of operations, including wounded and invalids. As this announced itself as a large scale project, the Ministry of National Defence established in 2015, a specialized section at the Military Sports Club „Steaua”, where all the members of Invictus Team Romania have subscribed.
