Experts from Balkan states on documentation visit at MoD HQ


Parliamentary experts from six south-eastern European states participated in a working session at the Ministry of National Defence on the contribution and role of the military institution in developing and implementing the national security policy.

The meeting was hosted by the State Secretary and chief of the Department for the Relation with the Parliament, Legal Correlation and Public Relations, Marius Balu. Military and civilian experts presented the 15 officials the role of the central structures in the MoD in developing and implementing the security policy in the process of legal harmonization with NATO standards, in managing public information and the control of the way Romania’s security strategy and policy is implemented.

Officials from Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, FYROM, Serbia and Montenegro and Romania participate, during September 19 to 23, in the 6th Reunion on Professional Training of the Parliamentary Experts Group in South-Eastern Europe. The members of parliament are informed on the Romanian experience in the field of security reforms, military restructuring and the process of integration in NATO and the European Union.

The Reunion was initiated by the Geneva Center for the Democratic Control of the Armed Forces (DCAF) and is hosted by the Parliamentary Committee for Defence, Public Order and National Security in the Chamber of Deputies. DCAF is a program for the training of parliamentary experts in South-Eastern Europe and involves financing some parliamentary expert positions in parliamentary specialty commissions of the six states and the annual organization of training sessions in models and practical aspects of organizing and managing the security sector.
