Press Release

The Minister of National Defence, Corneliu Dobrițoiu, and the chief of General Staff Lieutenant General, Ștefan Dănilă are part of the official delegation of Romania, headed by President Traian Băsescu, participating in the NATO Summit held in Chicago on 20 and 21 May.

The Summit of the North-Atlantic Council in its highest format of NATO heads of states and government, will take decisions on how to effectively implement the programs and initiatives agreed upon at the Summit in Lisbon, setting the fundamental policies and principles that will guide the evolution of the Alliance up to 2020 and further.

The Summit in Chicago will focus on tackling NATO’s role in Afghanistan while the Afghan National Security Forces progressively take over the responsibility of their own security and later, once this is completed; the Alliance`s capability to defend the population and territory of its member states and to deal with the challenges of the 21st century; better linking together for a shared global defence.
